INTERVIEW
WITH FATHER FORTEA
Of the cases you've seen personally, what percentage would you say are authentically possessed?
From all of the people that come to us, perhaps 50 percent don't claim they are possessed, and they are not. Of the rest, there are maybe less than 1 percent that are really possessed. That doesn't mean that other people aren't suffering from anything related to the world of spirits. Many people suffer from demons, but don't suffer from possession.
What would you have to say to any LoveToKnow readers who feel that they could be experiencing these sorts of things in their own lives?
We have to distinguish between ordinary temptation from extraordinary phenomenon. Many people believe in demons, or that they are experiencing something. If it's ordinary temptation, they need to pray and increase their spiritual lives. If they suffer from something extraordinary, they need to call their diocese and ask for the priest that specializes in this field. If there is no priest at the diocese, they need to ask for the name of the nearest diocese with a priest who is specialized. But they should never, ever go to a person in the yellow pages who asks for money or answer any ads about any research or experiments.

FATHER JOSE ANTONIO FORTEA
SPANISH EXORCIST
Father Jose Antonio Fortea is an exorcist, parish priest and author of "Interview With an Exorcist", an insider's view into demonic possession and exorcism. He has been practicing the rite for the Catholic Church for over twenty years. He has published several books, among them: “Interview with an Exorcist”, based on his investigations of cases of suspected possessions, and his attendance at hundreds of exorcisms. In this captivating book, you will find answers to many questions about devil, temptation, exorcisms, demonic possession, obsession, and infestation.
PORNOGRAPHY AND THE DEVIL
With reference to pornography, what danger do pornography addicts incur? And fans of black magic or the occult arts?
Fortea: Pornography debilitates the spiritual strength of the soul but does not provoke possession. Black magic does provoke possession because it involves invoking the devil. The occult arts are quite varied; in my books, I analyze each one as to their harmfulness. For example, divination is a sin but does not provoke possession. However, voodoo is indeed a cause of possession for those who practice it.
